A question older than time itself, which is faster? A road bike on the road, or a mountain bike off-road? To find out we went to Snowdonia National Park with the new Garmin Edge 530 and Edge 830. Will the more direct off-road route be faster than the longer but smoother road route? Watch now to find out!

The objective; find some welsh cakes before racing to a picturesque picnic spot underneath a waterfall. The riders; are our very own Neil Donoghue, and the contender, Hank from GCN. The routes (planned with Komoot); Neil will be taking on a 16-mile off-road point to point, stopping off to get welsh cakes on his way to the waterfall; Hank will have 34 miles to cover, picking up the welsh cakes before doubling back on himself to get to the finish. The new Garmins feature MTB Dynamics, technology that measures your airtime, the difficulty of your ride, and rider skill (known as Grit and Flow). Rider-to-rider messaging will help Hank and Neil let each other know when they’ve secured their Welsh cakes. The live track feature will let them know if they need to get a move on!
