The estuary of Danube, between Ukraine and Romania, is home to the largest rosy pelicans population in the world. One colony totals about 6-8 thousand couples. During summer period their number can reach about 30 thousand birds. At the beginning of 1990s the number of rosy pelicans was about 10 thousand, so you can tell that the population grows. Over the course of one day a pelican consumes 1.4 kg of fish. Danube shallow waters are perfect place for them. For winter period they travel to equatorial African lake Victoria and make only one stop on the way there.
