35 yrs ago Pope John Paul II made a historic visit to Iowa in America's heartland. He talked about the land as God's gift and our responsibility to sustain life by working the land to address human hunger, while caring for and preserving it. How are we doing? Three organizations—the Diocese of Des Moines, National Catholic Rural Life Conference, and Living History Farms—sponsored a commemoration of the Holy Father's visit, to express their gratitude and to explore agriculture, feeding the world, environmental ethics, and spirituality on October 2 and 3, 2009 in Des Moines.
