Cyril Ramaphosa, the president of South Africa, who is also the leader of an African peace mission, has met with the leaders of Russia and Ukraine and requested that they de-escalate the situation.
The US had threatened to sever economic links with South Africa and made accusations that the country was selling weapons to Russia and Vladimir Putin right before the expedition.
