This cab ride was recorded on the 2nd last day of operation for this 750 mm gauge railway - the only one of it's kind in Switzerland that served passengers daily. The last day was overcast, making this the last sunny day of operation for these trains.
The railway is beloved in the region - made apparent by the large number of people who came to ride on it one last time, take photographs or stand by and wave. The trains were decorated with reefs and running in longer configurations than usual for the weekend.
After the final public train in the early hours of the morning on the 6th of April, it was farewell. The trains were sold to a 760mm railway in Slovakia and the tracks would be rebuilt with the more standard 1000 mm gauge. This would make it cheaper to produce rolling stock and allow a possible connection to the tram network of Basel in the future.
The new railway is now in operation. During the construction process I filmed a video from a car to give viewers a glimpse into what was happening. It will be released on this channel eventually too - as well as a video of the new line.
