The Card Players, an iconic work by Cézanne (1892)
Paul Cézanne (1839--1906) was a French artist and Post-Impressionist painter whose work laid the foundations of the transition from the 19th-century conception of artistic endeavour to a new and radically different world of art in the 20th century. Cézanne can be said to form the bridge between late 19th-century Impressionism and the early 20th century's new line of artistic enquiry, Cubism. The line attributed to both Matisse and Picasso that Cézanne "is the father of us all" cannot be easily dismissed.
Paul Cézanne was born January 19, 1839, and he had two younger sisters one named Marie the other named Rose. His father's name was Louis-Auguste Cezanne and his mother's name was Anne Elisabeth Honorine Aubert. Cézanne was diabetic and had a depression problem. Before Paul Cézanne met Camille Pissarro he mostly painted dark pictures, and after meeting Camille he was a post Impressionist. He married Marie Hortense Fiquet in the year of 1886 and had a son named Paul born in January 1872 and died October 22, 1906 from Pneumonia. Paul Cézanne was buried in Aix-en-Provence the same place he was born.

"Painting from nature is not copying the object, it is realizing one's sensations." - Paul Cézanne
"The painter must enclose himself within his work; he must respond not with words, but with paintings." - Paul Cézanne
"Painting, like any art, comprises a technique, a workmanlike handling of material, but the accuracy of a tone and the felicitous combination of effects depend entirely on the choice made by the artist." - Paul Cézanne
