(19 Jan 2019) Keir Starmer, the UK's Shadow Brexit Secretary, said on Saturday that campaigning for a public vote on Britain's exit from the European Union must be part of the opposition Labour Party's next move after it failed to secure a General Election.
Speaking at the Fabian Society in London, Starmer said Prime Minister Theresa May's heavy defeat in Parliament over her divorce deal with the EU was a result of "red lines" she had set in negotiations and a failure to consult with parliament.
Starmer also said a debate of the causes of the vote to leave the trade bloc including inequality and a broken housing market was lost in "endless discussion about parliamentary process".
