(13 Dec 2018) Hungary's capital witnessed another night of anti-government protests on Thursday, with tension at times boiling over and demonstrators scuffling with police in front of the parliament building.
The protesters had earlier marched through the streets of Budapest, carrying banners reading "Gang of thieves, to prison with them" and "Free country, free education!"
The demonstrators shouted slogans against Prime Minister Viktor Orban at the rally, which was initially called to oppose recent changes to the labour code.
Trades unions and opponents have criticised the amendments as a "slave law" benefiting employers.
Some protesters also criticised the government's ouster of the Central European University, founded by financier George Soros, efforts to limit academic freedoms and increasing perceived government corruption.
One demonstrator was seen holding a banner reading "Merry Christmas" - a reference to Orban's response when he was asked an uncomfortable question by the opposition in parliament.
