Demonstrating Best Practice in Raised Bog Restoration in Ireland is Coillte's 4th LIFE project and it's 2nd on Raised Bog.Raised bogs have become increasingly rare, and Ireland is among the last of the European countries where a range of peatlands still exist. Raised bogs are recognised as a very threatened habitat in the European Union, requiring urgent conservation action
The main aim of the project is to restore 636 hectares of bog habitat on 17 conservation sites.
The project is co-ordinated by Coillte, and is jointly funded by the European Directorate General for the Environment under the EU LIFE Nature programme and the National Parks and Wildlife Service.
This film will tell the story of how bogs are formed, why they are important, the threats they face, and the work that Coillte and the National Parks and Wildlife Service carry out to restore bogs to their former glory.
