BNC anchor Tashanea Whitlow said more businesses are requiring proof of COVID-19 vaccination before entry, a move that’s led to an increase in Americans buying and selling fake versions of vaccination cards.
While it makes more sense to some people to just get the COVID-19 vaccination for free and subsequently receive a vaccination card, some Americans clearly don’t want to do that. “Using these fake vaccine cards, that is illegal,” BNC correspondent Jamiese Pierce said. “The cards come with a CDC seal on it and using that in this pretense is fraudulent and punishable by up to five years in prison.” The customs area port director in Memphis said most of the shipments are coming from China, with 15 overnight shipments of “low quality, counterfeit vaccine cards” recently being seized in the city. While some cards have been easy to spot because of misspelled words or other noticeable errors, there are some that look like the real thing, and that’s causing major concerns for both business owners and health officials.
