Syria’s new administration announced that an agreement had been reached to merge all rebel factions under Defense Ministry. Syrian rebels seized control of Damascus on December 8, forcing Assad to flee after more than 13 years of civil war. The recent breakthrough agreement to merge rebel forces into the Defence Ministry follows HTS leader Golani taking control of Syria. Last week, PM Md al-Bashir stated that the ministry would be restructured using former rebel factions and officers who defected from Assad’s army. After coming to power, HTS leader Al-Golani met with several international delegates and gave interviews to Western media. So far, Golani has met with officials from Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Qatar, Turkey, and the US.
