A South African court on Wednesday sentenced Paralympian Oscar Pistorius to six years in prison for the murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in 2013. Judge Thokozile Masipa of the High Court in Pretoria announced that she had taken into consideration mitigating factors as she explained why she had not imposed a minimum 15-year sentence. Murder ordinarily carries a mandatory sentence of 15 years in South Africa.
