5 Cenotes You Must Visit in Tulum Mexico
5. Cenote Cristal
Cenote Cristal is easily accessible by bike from the centre of Tulum, the bike ride is about 20 mins. We rented our bike from Kellys bike shop which has quite a few locations in town. Once you arrive there is one admission price for 2 cenotes in the area which costs 120 mexican pesos per person. Cenote Cristal has an awesome wooden diving board which you can jump off of into the clear water. There are plenty of fish and you may also come across some small turtles
4. Cenote Escondido
Cenote Escondido is across the street from Cenote Cristal, this cenote is included in the admission price when visiting Cenote Cristal. Unlike Cenote Cristal, you must be prepared for quite a walk to Cenote Escondido. if you rented a bike I would suggest riding there instead of going by foot. Escondido is larger than Cenote Cristal and tends to be the less busy cenote of the two. Some would say that Escondido has better snorkeling than Cristal. You’ll find picnic tables, bathrooms and little huts where you can change
3 + 2. Cenote Dos Ojos
Cenote Dos Ojos is one of the more impressive cenotes in the area.
You’ll need to drive there as it is a bit far to ride your bike. Dos Ojos translates to Two Eyes which explains why there are two separate cenotes you can visit. We paid 350 mexican pesos to visit both the Cenotes on our own. There is an additional cost if you want to hire a guide or go for a scubadrive. The pristine deep blue water is perfect for snorkeling and diving and it is filled with loads of fish. One of the coolest parts about these two Cenotes is the fact that they are basically underwater caves with fossilized coral and one is literally a bat cave.
1. Cenote Nicte-ha
And finally my favorite Cenote is Cenote Nicte-ha. This open Cenote is filled with beautiful lily pads. It is about a 25-30 minute drive from Tulum and is very close to Cenote Dos Ojos so it can be visited within the same day. We paid 100 Mexican Pesos to enter and life vests were included in the price. It’s a great place to take photos so much so that People even get married here!
Be sure to have a snorkel mask when visiting the cenotes
