Samia Mohammed, Finalist, Molecular and Cellular Biology, A Small Victory in the Quest to Cure Cancer

The SBU Three Minute Thesis (3MT) 2020 took place virtually at Stony Brook University in late April
2020, with winners for best talk announced on May 1, 2020. In these recorded talks, Stony Brook
doctoral candidates across disciplines present their dissertation research conclusions to a general
audience in three minutes with only one powerpoint slide.

In contrast to previous competitions, graduate student competitors prepared their talks this year to be
delivered and recorded remotely due to limitations caused by the Coronavirus pandemic.

Our goal is for SBU graduate students to engage all their communication skills to make their research
vivid and engaging while emphasizing its key points without jargon or distortion. Student competitors
have received specialized communication training which will aid them in becoming the next generation
of innovators, leaders, teachers, and advocates.
