Most NFT images are not actually stored on the blockchain. However, there are exceptions, such as the project Autoglyphs where the images are stored on the blockchain. NFT Metadata on the blockchain usually points to another source for the image.There are centralized ways to host the image and decentralized ways such as IPFS and Arweave. In addition, certain smart contracts have the ability to alter or delete NFT images even after they are generated. We unfortunately saw this happen with the Raccoon Secret Society NFT project. Hopefully, we can learn from the current NFT issues and improve.
