When should you worry about persistent coughing after a chest infection? A cough can last for 6-8 weeks after recovering from a chest infection such as pneumonia, COVID, influenza or even a common cold. If the cough is slowly getting better in a few weeks, there is probably nothing to worry about. However, a cough lasting for longer than 2 months, which is also maybe worsening or is accompanied by other symptoms probably requires a check-up with your doctor to find what the cause is and what the most appropriate treatment would be.
