Welcome to Gliding #021, a celebration of beautiful Australian landscapes. The film was shot entirely on a DJI Mavic 3 Pro. Best wishes and I hope you enjoy watching.
Scenes:
Scene 1 – Coogee to Gordons Bay and Clovelly, Sydney, Australia
Soundtrack: ‘Wishes To The World’ by Rockot
Starting at South Coogee Point we follow the shoreline past Wylie’s Baths and Grant Reserve and onto McIver’s Ladies Baths. At Coogee Life Saving the scene changes to look directly at Coogee Beach itself and then around Dolphin’s Point. We make the slow climb beside Koojah Cliff and over Kimberley’s Vantage Point where we turn in to take a quick look at Gordon’s Bay.
Moving onward the next landmark is Little Coogee Bay and it’s concreted surrounds of Clovelly Bay where the Geoff James Ocean Pool is found. Above Bundock Park the scene turns to look back across Clovelly Beach as we reduce height to approach and round the Clovelly Headland. The closing scene is a chance to look back at the three bays we have just visited where we gain a broader perspective of this beautiful stretch of Sydney coast.
Scene 2 – Margaret River, Western Australia
Soundtrack: ‘Northern Lights’ by Serge Pavkin
Venturing to the western coast of Australia we visit the world famous Margaret River. The scene starts above the river itself – looking back toward the Margaret River Rowing Club. We turn to follow the river through it’s final series of sharp twists as heads into the ocean, here we can see the golden sand beneath the rust coloured river water, the combination turning the banks into an almost a golden yellow.
As we reach the sea we pause to view the waves washing into Prevelly Rock Pools before watching a surfer catching a wave at the Yallingup Main Break. After making a quick rounding of Surfers Point where annually spectators gather to watch the World Surf League competition featuring the best surfers on the planet.
Finally it’s a trip northward toward Cape Mentelle to take in some of the gorgeous rock pools and magnificent sand and cliffs found just outside the main tourist area.
Scene 3 – Neutral Bay, Sydney
Soundtrack: ‘Discover New Horizons’ by Dennis Pavlov
The scene opens with a slow climb from water’s to gradually rise above the harbourside suburb of Kirribilli to reveal the world famous jewels of Sydney – the Opera House on Bennelong Point and the Sydney Harbour Bridge. On this day a cruise ship resides at the international terminal in Circular Quay.
From here we move north by only a few hundred meters to take in a beautiful bay in Sydney Harbour that is often overlooked - Neutral Bay. The small but lovely Kesterton Park sits on the tip of the point where North Sydney Wharf is located and just a little southward sits the gorgeous Milson Park. As we slowly round the point it’s a fabulous opportunity to take in the early morning sun glittering on the water and on the glass and steel of the high rise in the background.
Scene 4 –Black Rock, Mollymook
Soundtrack: ‘Solitude’ by Danny Vin
Mollymook is a little town on the south coast of New South Wales in the Shoalhaven Region. On the southern tip of Mollymook Beach is a favourite location of mine – Flat Rock – an interesting and ever changing outcrop. In this scene I take the opportunity to make a low approach from the Collers Beach side where small but mesmerising waves roll in very much like ripples in a pond.
Then it is across the surface of the rock itself and a chance to enjoy the many varied layers, shapes and colours within.
Scene 5 – Balgowlah to Forty Baskets Beach and Fairlight, Sydney
Soundtrack: ‘Mountain Sky’ by Serge Pavkin
The final scene of episode #021 of Gliding is a flight along a small section of North Harbour in Sydney. Starting in Balgowlah near Reef Beach we hug the coast and travel over the pool at Forty Baskets beach before passing over North Harbour Sailing Club and finishing with a direct view onto the suburb of Fairlight.
