LOS ANGELES — Air France received bomb threats against two planes on Tuesday, just days after a series of deadly terrorist attacks killed at least 129 people in the French capital.
Reuters reports that two Air France flights were en route to Paris from the U.S. when they were diverted mid-flight after airline officials received anonymous bomb threats just after their respective takeoffs.
Flight 65, an Airbus A380, left Los Angeles International Airport at 3:45 p.m. and had to make an emergency landing at Salt Lake City. It was carrying 473 passengers, according to the Los Angeles Times. The FBI and other law enforcement agencies surrounded the plane when it landed at a safe distance from the terminal and interviewed passengers after they were evacuated, CNN reports.
Air France Flight 55, a Boeing 777 aircraft carrying 234 passengers, departed Washington Dulles International Airport at 6:40 p.m. and was diverted to Halifax, Nova Scotia. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police used dogs to inspect the plane and passengers' luggage for explosives, according to NBC.
Authorities will be investigating the source of the bomb threats, which were reportedly made via telephone calls.
