Lawyers representing Kate Cox, a Texas woman seeking an abortion, say Cox is now seeking care out of state after what they call “legal whiplash and threats of prosecution from Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.” Doctors for Cox say her fetus has a genetic abnormality that will likely result in a stillbirth or death shortly after birth. They also say continuing the pregnancy puts Cox, a mother of two, at risk for serious health complications. After a judge granted Cox’s request for an abortion last week, AG Paxton appealed to the Texas Supreme Court and threatened hospitals and doctors who might give Cox care. Morning Joe host Mika Brzezinski slammed Paxton saying while he has a choice, Cox does not. She adds “Our daughters are growing up in a world where… people like Ken Paxton will have more of a say in their health care decisions. They will fear they will suffer and even die… this is where we are NOW.”
