This video was made in collaboration with the residents of the ‘Wielewaal’ neighbourhood in Rotterdam-South. This document in time, portrays the lives of the true working-class upon which this city built its foundations, the people so often neglected in a city which is expanding beyond the reach of the everyday people.
Unfortunately, the people of the Wielewaal are also being threatened by eviction, as are so many low-income households in the city of Rotterdam.
All to make place for a new demographic which lacks the attachment that people like the residents of the Wielewaal have to their city.
‘Make it Happen’ is the city-slogan of our city, one which provokes a feeling of absurdity and disbelief when seen in the light of the harsh reality of neo-liberal policies.
We extensively thank Wil, Martin, Meryem, Hennie, Jan, Riene and Vincenzo for welcoming us into their little ‘village’ and allowing us to make this video.
