On February 11, 1937, the UAW Sit-Down Strike concluded after 44 days inside a GM factory in Flint, Michigan. The long-lasting effects of this historic strike can hardly be overstated. The resolutions from the strike greatly improved the quality of life for generations of automotive manufacturing workers in Michigan, and throughout the country. In this episode of the Sloan Discover Uncover podcast, you'll learn why the workers planned this dramatic strike, the sacrifices made by the strikers and their families, General Motors' and the City of Flint's responses, and the eventual demands that were met by GM. (NOTE: there are surprisingly very few artifacts from the UAW Sit-Down Strike. If you have any letters, artifacts or stories that have been handed down from family members or friends who were involved in this significant historical event, please email us at podcast@SloanLongway.org. Thank you.)
