Elijah Wood plays a deranged serial killer in this brutal remake of the notorious 1980s cult horror.
A disturbed loner, Frank Zito (Elijah Wood) is shattered by the death of his mother, with whom he had lived well into adulthood. In the void left by her death, Frank becomes a serial killer, stalking and murdering women. He then adorns the mannequins in his store with their scalps. But when he forms a relationship with artist Anna (Nora Arnezeder), Frank is torn. Can he resist the urge to kill again - or will Anna become another victim? On its release in 1980, William Lustig's horror Maniac whipped up a storm due to its unrelentingly graphic violence. Now, Alexandre Aja (the man behind controversial French horror Switchblade Romance) teams up with director Franck Khalfoun to bring a disturbing new vision to the screen, in which the story is seen entirely from the point of view of the killer himself.
