Roby Lakatos comes from a legendary gypsy family line. His ancestor János Bihari was one of the founding fathers of Gypsy instrumental music and inspired composers such as Liszt and Brahms. Roby is introduced to the secrets of gypsy music by his father Tony and uncle Sándor Lakatos at the age of five. He learns from the ear all this repertoire by heart, immersed in the tradition of play and ornamentation. He formed himself in the orchestras where his father and his uncle play. He perfected his classical training by studying the repertoire at the Béla Bartók Conservatory in Budapest where he received the first prize in 1984. This double training between popular and scholarly music allowes him to play with ease and virtuosity all kinds of music in a unique, inspired style. . Roby Lakatos left his native country in 1985 for Belgium. From 1986 to 1996, he played in Brussels in the club "Ateliers de la Grande Île", with his ensemble, he then started performing concerts and introduced two unusual instruments, the guitar and the piano, in his gypsy group to which he gives a new stylistic orientation. In March 2004, Roby Lakatos had great success playing alongside Maxim Vengerov and the London Symphony Orchestra during the orchestra festival Les Genies du Violin. He is also noticed by Yehudi Menuhin. He plays around the world in festivals and large concert halls and performs on television, radio, etc. As an arranger and as a performer ,he plays both traditional Hungarian music, classical music and jazz. Thanks to this eclecticism, he has been able to perform with musicians such as: Vadim Repin, Bireli Lagrene, Herbie Hancock, Rhoda Scott, Stochelo Rosenberg, Stéphane Grappelli ...
