Austria's Rudolf Sperl held on to his early lead in the 1987 International Windsurfing Championships to win the title at the Red Sea resort of Eilat on Monday (19/1). Sweden's Joachim Larsen also maintained his early position to finish in second place. However John Nilsen of Norway managed to move up from fifth position on Thursday to finish overall third in the championship. Twelve international class competitors from eight countries - including Denmark, Belgium and West Germany - took part in the five day event. The championship was determined by tallying each day's scores for a final mark.
