In this KastKing educational video How To Fishing Reel Maintenance – KastKing Bassinator Elite by bass fishing pro Richard Cooper he shows you how to clean fishing reels and how lubricate a baitcasting reel.
He says, “Hey Richard Cooper here and the fishing season’s just about to start up again, and one thing I really like to do during the off season before I start fishing again is do some very simple reel maintenance on my reels.
This is a KastKing Bassinator Pro Elite. Kastking has made it very simple to take apart this reel and do some basic maintenance on it. There’s a black lever on the bottom of the reel on the door, and you just simply rotate that to the open position.
Then the door will swing out of place. You can then slide the spool out, and this will give you all the spots that you need to clean and the spots you need to lubricate. So, what I like to do is I just take a regular rubbing alcohol and a Q-tip, and I use rubbing alcohol and I go around all the surfaces, bearing surfaces and everything I can get to to clean all the gunk or debris that may have built up in there for from the season of fishing. The reason I use rubbing alcohol is, it does a really good job of cleaning that stuff, but it also dries very fast and that’s. what you want. Then, once it’s clean, I take a just any kind of reel oil. This is a Lucas reel oil and I’m going to use about two to three drops and go down. There’s a bearing inside the hole where the spool came from then I’m also going to lubricate the bearing that is on the back of the door here, two to three drops there and then also like to put two to three drops on the level wind system and then, lastly, there’s, a bearing on the back of the spool here, and I put two to three drops on that as well. And then you just simply just like you pulled it out, you put the spool back in the door, rotates back into place, and then you push that lever back to the closed position.
If you do that every season your reels are going to last you a long time and they’re going to continue to operate smoothly.
