NIA Conducts Multi-State Raids in Probe of Bengaluru Rameshwaram Cafe Blast; Key Suspects Arrested

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted multi-state raids on Tuesday in connection with the Rameshwaram Cafe blast in Bengaluru. The blasts, which occurred on March 1, caused extensive damage to the cafe and resulted in injuries to several customers and staff members. The NIA, which took over the investigation on March 3, has carried out searches in various locations, including Coimbatore and multiple areas in Bengaluru such as Kumaraswamy Layout and Banashankari. Additionally, raids were conducted in Anantapur district, Andhra Pradesh, at the residence of retired headmaster Abdul, whose sons, residing in Bangalore, have been missing and are suspected of links to extremist groups.
As part of their ongoing probe, the NIA seized important documents and focused on two trainee doctors who have come under scrutiny. On April 12, the agency arrested two key suspects: Abdul Matheen Ahmed Taahaa, identified as the mastermind, and Mussavir Hussain Shazib, who allegedly placed the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at the cafe. Both were apprehended from a lodge near Kolkata, where they were staying under assumed identities.
The senior NIA official leading the operation stated that the multi-state raids are part of a broader effort to uncover and dismantle the network involved in the blast.
