Shack fires in the Western Cape have claimed yet another life. One person has died, this time in a blaze in the Vrygrond informal settlement near Muizenberg. The ward councillor in the Vrygrond area says 16 structures have been destroyed in the blaze which broke out at around 4am this morning.
It is the fourth fire in the ward this month. On Christmas Eve a 30-year-old man died in Nomzamo in the Strand due to smoke inhalation. Meanwhile, mop-up operations are still ongoing in Du Noon where some 600 people have been displaced.
