We discovered this presently abandoned slice of architectural beauty while exploring the area around Salt Springs. While we were inspecting this gem we had a fortunate encounter with a lady who appeared out of nowhere claimed ownership of the house and during the course of an enlightening conveyed to us as much of the history as she knew, in addition to the plans she and her family contemplate for restoring the house.
The house, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, has stood in its present location for more than a century but was originally constructed in 1894 along the shores of Lake Kerr, several miles to the west of its present location. The original owner and builder, Daniel Lewis Morgan, was killed in a logging accident and the house was purchased and moved to its present location by William C. Townsend.
