While this 1989 revival of the 'Lassie' saga featured the titular canine, the humans were interesting too. Dee Wallace Stone, remembered for 'Cujo' and 'E.T.', played mom with her real-life husband Christopher. Behind the camera Scott Baio, Tony Dow, and Bruce Seth Green directed multiple episodes. Respecting a debt to the classic series that preceded it, the regular cast included Jon Provost, and June Lockhart guest starred in an episode. Ultimately the show brought back Tommy Rettig as Jeff Miller, the role he played 45 years earlier, for a sort of 'reunion' with 1989's Lassie (in-story a descendant of Jeff's collie). Leonardo DiCaprio made his tv debut on 'New Lassie'; producer Al Burton, who gave Todd Bridges his big break on 'Different Strokes', signed him up for a 'New Lassie' guest shot just days after Bridges was acquitted in one of his skirmishes with the law. Bridges played a deputy sheriff. The theme harkens back to the original series, opening with a snippet of the familiar 'whistle' tune introduced in the late 1950s. It was written by Les Baxter, composer for many AIP horror and sci-fi films; his Capitol recordings enjoyed new popularity during the exotica/space-age pop boomlet. The main theme of the 1989 series is by Timothy Thompson and Burton. Thompson's website - [ Ссылка ]
