FRANCE SOCCER
France v Northern Ireland. Finals workout draw 0-0.
France and Northern Ireland slipped and slithered to a scoreless draw on a frozen pitch in Paris on Wednesday (26/2) that deprived the players of both teams of the tough work-out they needed for the World Cup finals. It was the first time since their first clash in 1951, that France had failed to beat Northern Ireland. It was also the sixth game in a row that Northern Ireland had prevented its opponents from scoring. The French team went close to scoring several times, but were defeated more by their own errors on the slippery pitch than by the play of the Northern Irish. Only about 28,000 spectators, less than half the capacity of the Parc De Prince Stadium, braved the cold to watch the match.
