7. SOUNDBITE: (English) David C. Norman, Impressionist and Modern Art Specialist, Sotheby's
"All the impressionists later in life - Monet, Renoir and others - moved away from the cities to the countryside. Monet created his Giverny and his waterlillies, Renoir went to the south of France, but Pissarro returned to the city and was painting these glorious urban views late in his life. They've been incredibly rare to come onto the market and I would say this is the finest example of that."

STORYLINE:
The art world will be focussing on New York this week as three major auction houses hold their big autumn sales of impressionist and modern art.
The sales at Christie's, Sotheby's and Phillips take place against a backdrop of the flagging U-S economy in the aftermath of the September 11 attacks on New York and Washington.
Sotheby's are holding their sale on 7 and 8 November.
It includes a number of rare works by a range of artists including Henri Matisse, Amedeo Modigliani, Georges Braque, Alberto Giacometti and Camille Pissarro.
The sale is estimated to make between 39 (m) million and 53 (m) million U-S dollars.
The star of the show is Pissarro's 1893 painting "La Rue Saint-Lazare", one of a series of four Parisian views the artist painted between 1892 and 1893.
It is the most expensive item in the sale and is expected to fetch between 4 (m) million and 6 (m) million U-S dollars.
David Norman of Sotheby's was optimistic that art collectors would still be buying in spite of the current atmosphere in the United States.
