The Rolex Submariner is the icon of its brand. Among the world's most recognizable watches, the Submariner is the world's most recognized watch. And this vintage Rolex Submariner 5512 chronometer is as good as it gets: a pristine no-date chronometer Submariner from the golden age of the dive watch, the 1960s.

James Bond would approve.

Originally released in late 1958 as a 1959 model, the Rolex Submariner 5512 helped to set the mold for the modern Sub references. By 1965, its combination of triplock crown, chronometer-grade movement, crown guards, and roughly 40mm case set the template that would endure for decades.

Nearly fifty years after this 5512's estimated 1968 manufacture date, any kid in any state in the union could tell you "that's a Sub!"

This one boasts an immaculate matte dial with six-line print and a meters-first depth descriptor. The dial features a subtle but definite tritium patina but presents as new in every other respect.

Critically, this watch has been polished lightly, if ever, and the abundance of highly-defined case lines, robust crown guards and full lugs attests to this. You simply cannot replace metal once it's gone.

This watch features the Rolex COSC chronometer-grade caliber 1570. Of the two chronometer movements used in the 5512 between its 1958 launch and 1978 sunset, the 1570 is the more sophisticated of the two. It beats at a more shock-resistant 19,800 VpH to the 18,000 of its 1560 chronometer counterpart. Rolex's signature microstella balance blocks and fixed regulator assure resistance to shock-induced error.

The bracelet is a correct 7206 unit with matching correct 80 end links. All aspects of this watch present as one would expect of a prime specimen. Compared to the 5513, few 5512 Submariners were built, and even fewer survive in this kind of condition.
