Families come in all shapes, sizes, and backgrounds. No longer is a normal family defined by one mom, dad, and 2-point-5 kids. In America, 50% of kids in the US will watch their parents divorce.. 25% of American kids will actually witness 2 divorces in their home. This leaves us with a new family term called blended families.
Many blended families think they are alone. They think no one understands their unique situation. Often times blended families find themselves not in church because they feel that the church is full of perfect people, those perfect people must also be perfect families. That's not true at all. As destructive as divorce is on the family unit blended families has become the new norm. God loves the blended family as much as he loves the "normal" family.
Why is that? Because Gods love and mercy extends beyond our faults and flaws. He loves us no matter what our role is in a blended family, or how it came into existence...
In Ephesians 1 verse 4 and 5...
“even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love “he predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will,”
no matter what, before the world started Jesus adopted us into His family. Through adoption we are a part of Gods blended family. We have been accepted through Jesus to be a part of this heavenly family with all our brothers and sisters and Heavenly Father. This new blended family we have in Jesus, can be just as messy as the blended families in our own homes. Heartache, hurts, betrayal, lies, confusion, is what we find in many blended families... But once everyone in the family understands love rules in the family -- love conquers all those issues... But it is a greater Love from Jesus that erases -- eliminates all our hurts, and problems.
