Weaning rings look terrible but we believe they are the kindest way to wean calves. They ring slips into the nostril and they cause no pain but, they make it difficult for the calf to suckle from the cow. The calf can stay with the cow and they can still comfort and groom one another. We wean steers earlier than heifers, so the steers can go to a new home and bond with their new owners. March 2014.
