Exercise Science Majors
People who are passionate about health, wellness, and fitness often want to turn that interest into their life’s work. And exercise science can be a perfect major for someone like that.
Exercise science majors at the undergraduate level are typically 4-year bachelor of science (B.S) programs. They are popular and available at many colleges and universities throughout the U.S.
THE MAJORS ARE CALLED:
…exercise science, usually, but it can be quite similar to an exercise physiology or kinesiology major.
THE OVERALL THEME OF THE MAJORS IS:
…you guessed it, exercise, science, physiology, wellness, and fitness. The program of study looks into what happens in the human body when someone exercises, and how exercise can improve overall health, such as metabolism, muscle tone, and cardiovascular function. This knowledge can empower people in various professions to develop exercise programs for their patients and clients, and help people become healthier and fitter.
The required courses to earn a degree will typically include:
• general education
• physical science
• anatomy and physiology
• chemistry
• nutrition
• mathematics
• kinesiology
• courses related to exercise science, such as clinical exercise physiology, biomechanics, and athletic training
There are also elective courses to round out an exercise science major.
VIDEO NOTE: Could show the names of all courses on the screen as narrator is reading them.
Students in exercise science majors might also get some hands-on, practical experience and complete an internship.
SOME OF THE BENEFITS OF EXERCISE SCIENCE MAJORS:
1. One benefit is the ability to help other people be healthier.
2. You also gain in-demand knowledge and skills, and there is a huge need in health-related professions.
3. Patients or clients you work with have added confidence in knowing you have high-level scientific training.
4. You can also reap some personal rewards, in the form of better health through nutritional knowledge and fitness focus.
AFTER COMPLETING AN EXERCISE SCIENCE MAJOR, YOU CAN:
• Pursue a career in exciting and in-demand careers, including exercise physiologist, personal trainer, cardiopulmonary rehabilitation specialist, fitness and wellness director, or exercise instructor. Many of the careers are suitable either for an employee or an entrepreneur.
• Go on to graduate studies and pursue a healthcare career such as physical therapist, chiropractor, medical doctor, occupational therapist, or physician assistant. Many people need to complete other additional courses, trainings, and/or certifications to be fully prepared for their chosen career after an exercise science degree.
VIDEO NOTE: Maybe show some of the words from the items above on the screen while narrator is talking, and maybe present it as a numbered list.
Any wellness-related area of expertise is very relevant and needed in today’s society. And exercise science is certainly no exception.
