Violinist Irmina Trynkos and pianist Pavel Timofeyevsky perform the famous Mo Li Hua - 茉莉花 ('Jasmine Flower’) folk song as a surprise encore for the audience of the Guangzhou Opera House.
This song is from the Jiangnan region and dates back to the 18th century. It became one of the first Chinese folk songs to become widely known outside China, and in 1896 was used as a temporary national anthem by the Qing dynasty.
Today, it’s the most popular of all Chinese traditional songs and has been used at major public events like the 2008 Summer Olympics and the 2010 Shanghai Expo opening ceremony.
Irmina Trynkos and Pavel Timofeyevsky arranged this special version for violin and piano on the occasion of their China Tour, which in also included performances in Shanghai, Beijing, Chongqing, Nanjing, among the others.
