Welcome to the Superbloom! Today I’ll be giving my best tips for shooting the California superbloom, or any flowers really.
#1 Be Respectful. Take only photos, leave only footprints. Do not go off trail, pick or trample flowers or bring dogs.
#2 Get Low. Shooting from the flower’s perspective makes a small flower pop.
#3 Get Closer. Macro shots are easier than ever with your phone.
#4 Be Patient. Wait for pollinators such as butterflies and hummingbirds to approach you. If you’re afraid of bees, make sure to move slowly and they shouldn’t bother you. I’ve put my phone within a couple of inches to feeding bees without ever having a problem.
#5 Look for Interesting Backdrops. My favorites are juxtaposing a flower against a snowy mountain, but there are all kinds of gorgeous backdrops in the natural world.
