One of the big reasons I think that Mormonism is a cult is because I was baptized when I was 8.

It's a big deal in Mormon culture to talk about how, "wow, we're so glad our 8-year-old is choosing to be baptized!"

I didn't have a choice!

I couldn't NOT get baptized.

And then, yet, when I became old enough to actually make decisions for myself and choose to leave the church, I had a relative tell me that,

"Well, now you're untrustworthy 'cause you broke your baptismal covenants." That I made when I was 8.

Like, it's a cult. It's a cult when you are a kid and you're made to be part of this religion, and then you're not allowed to leave with dignity.

That's a cult.
