A feature in "The Atlantic", Helena Fitzgerald's "All Hail Dead Week, the Best Week of the Year" introduces this name for that aimless week between Christmas and New Year’s Eve, when much is closed and dates get forgotten. Before the holidays dissolve back into normality, I mark Dead Week with a few clips starting in Walton Street to see what, if anything, is running as normal. By the time I get to Broad Street, Oxford has woken up. I stroll through the Christmas market, and then follow the pealing of bells to Radcliffe Square and the University Church. The bells ring and ring, and I use the opportunity to film the old buildings to their sound while there are few people to get in my way. Finally, I go back through the market.
