Miami Cancer Institute offers many support groups to help patients during all stages of cancer.
In the video below, breast cancer patient Abigail Johnston tells of her experience with the Metastatic Support Group. ‘The people who’ve been exactly where you’re at can answer your questions in a very different way than someone that has never experienced the same thing you are experiencing,” she explains. “Support groups are perfect for this.”
The Institute offers different support groups for people “at different places in their diagnosis and their age,” she adds.
“A support group is where no one feels alone,” she says.

[Voice of Abigail Johnston, Patient, Video: pictures of Abigail’s family] I am a mom, I have two boys, they are five and seven. We love their energy, we love their enthusiasm and we'd love being able to do things, as a family where we're all able to take part.
I have been living with stage four metastatic breast cancer since 2017.
[Graphic: Matches spoken content] It seemed to me that breast cancer was an older woman's disease, but it's not.
The people who have been exactly where you're at, can answer your questions in a very different way than somebody who has never experienced the same thing that you are experiencing.
Support groups are perfect for this. [Picture: Abigail at Miami Cancer Institute] And it's important to find a support group where you feel comfortable, accepted, and where other people in the group look like you.
The Miami Cancer Institute offers various different support groups for people at different places in their diagnosis and their age.
[Picture: Abigail at Miami Cancer Institute, receiving infusion] I personally attend the metastatic support group. It's simply different than the people who are dealing with an early stage diagnosis.
A support group will help you beyond measure because a support group is where no one feels alone.
