Long before he was a Pope, a cardinal or an archbishop, the late Pontiff Benedict XVI was simply Father Joseph. Even as he rose to the top ranks of the Church and unfurled many of the great moral and theological teachings of our day, he remained an ever-approachable priest. Author of the book "Father Benedict: The Spiritual and Intellectual Legacy of Pope Benedict XVI," James Day, joins to tell us about the late Pope's desire to go by Father Benedict at some point in his life. He lived through a lot of dark chapters: World War II, Nazi Germany, the sexual abuse crisis in the Church, but always with a gaze fixed on God and His beauty and love. Day talks about that and the lesson that's there for all of us. Some say the Papacy was something Pope Benedict never really aspired to. Day shares what Pope Benedict's reaction was to becoming Pope and all the media fanfare and attention that went along with that. Day fills us in on what inspired him to write Benedict's biography back in 2016.
