Again i wanna make clear that i am not a trained electrician!
Some other stuff that wasn't mentioned in the video.
The red light on a Renogy dc-dc usually means it's fried. That's what the manual says, if the red light is continuously on you have fried an internal fuse and the device needs to be repaired.
However it says nothing about if the red light is blinking or if the green light flickers.. the manual is somewhat lacking in that regard.
So what i found from troubleshooting the charger is this: (short version)
-Green flickering light: Take your D+ wire and put it straight to the positive on your starter-battery and undo and redo your ground-wire. Not just unscrew from the charger, but actually unscrew if from the car chassi.
-Red bliniking/pulsing light: Repeat previous steps ^
Longer version:
when we have the issue of the Green flickering light i could messure 12.6V(car off/charger of) at charger input and 14.xV with the car on. Turning the charger on the green light starts to flicker but now the input side only reads around 2 volts! same with the D+, having it outside the charger i got correct voltage, inserting the D+ together with a probe i would read the same low voltage.
With the red light blinking, you get almost the same result. only now even with the car on and charger on i read 14.xV BUT every time it *blinked red* the voltage dropped to around 2ish and the climbed back up and then dropped again.
I dont fully understand what is happening. All i know is, if you manage to get sparks around your ground when installing, your charger probably wont work. I've googled to try and find why "the ground becomes bad after spark"
with no luck.
