Yesterday I attended the closing day of the 44th Jerusalem Film Festival - Israel's longest running and most prestigious film festival. There I watched the second showing of 'Prisoner X' - an Israeli-made documentary which details what's known about the controversial life and death of Australian-Israeli citizen Ben Zygier who is alleged to have worked for the Mossad intelligence agency.
The 106 minute feature length documentary draws upon interviews with Ben Zygier's childhood friends and an anonymous figure inside the Mossad to attempt to shed light on the mysterious circumstances that led to his solitary confinement in a maximum security prison in Israel.
For those interested in the workings of the intelligence community and Mossad in particular the documentary makes for riveting if ultimately unsatisfying viewing.
My rating: 8/10.
