Agasthyamalai Biosphere Reserve was established in 2001 covering about 3500 square kilometres and spans across the forests of Southern parts of Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Agasthyakoodam has an altitude of 1868 m above the sea level situated within the Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. The forests around this peak are famous for the abundance of rare medicinal plants. Agasthyakoodam peak is also a pilgrimage destination for hindu devotees who believe that sage Agasthya meditated here.

This peak is a paradise for trek lovers. Forest department allows a controlled pilgrimage/trek during January to March of every year. This pilgrimage starts on the day of the Makaravilakku festival in Sabarimala temple and ends on the Sivarathri day. Only 100 entry passes are issued each day of the trek. Guidelines for Agastyrakoodam Trekking 2022.

1. The trekking will be held from January 18 to February 26.
2. The online registration for the trek can be available in the web site www.forest.kerala.gov.in or www.serviceonline.gov.in/trekking
3. The number of online bookings per day has been restricted to 75 persons. (75 online + 25 offline bookings).
4. Ticket rate per head is Rs.1580/-. Maximum persons in a group is 5.
5. Participant should submit life insurance or accident insurance coverage this year onwards. The trekkers will have to submit details regarding such policies while registering.
6. Participants will be required to produce negative certificates of RT-PCR tests undertaken not more than 72 hours prior to the journey. Proof of having taken both COVID-19 vaccine doses can also be submitted.
7. Not permitted to take alcohol and tobacco products for the trek.
8. Only those aged above 14 years can apply.
