(4 Dec 2014) Fishermen have recovered 18 bodies from the western Bering Sea where a South Korean fishing ship sank earlier this week, according to officials.
Six more bodies were found on Thursday near the site of the sinking in waters close to Russia.
Eleven bodies were found on Wednesday.
More than 50 fishermen went missing after the Oryong 501 sank on Monday, when seven fishermen were rescued and one fisherman was found dead.
It is believed the ship began to list after stormy weather caused seawater to flood its storage areas.
The South Korean First Vice Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yong gave an update on Thursday on how Seoul was dealing with the incident.
The meeting was attended by representatives from the Overseas Korean Nationals Protection and Crisis Management Division, the Safety and Public Administration Ministry, the South Korean Foreign Ministry, the Oceans and Fisheries Ministry and National Defence Ministry.
At a separate news conference meanwhile, Kwon Ki-hwan, the Deputy Director-General of the South Korean Foreign Ministry's Overseas Koreans and Consular Affairs Bureau confirmed that only seven crew members have been rescued - three from the Philippines, another three are from Indonesia and one from Russia.
Among the 18 bodies recovered, there were six South Koreans, nine Indonesians, two Filipinos and one unconfirmed Southeast Asian, he added.
