President Joe Biden wasted no time during his first full day in office. He signed a dozen executive orders and actions aimed at fighting the pandemic and rolling out a 200-page national strategy for the COVID-19 response. It urges Americans to commit to wearing masks for the next 100 days. One fo the orders requires face coverings on all public transportation and federal property.
The administration is ramping up supplies for vaccinations and expanding testing through the creation of a National Pandemic Testing Board. This, as more than 400,000 Americans have lost their lives to the virus. That number is expected to reach half a million by next month.
Thursday, 98 new deaths were reported in New Jersey, pushing the total probable and confirmed deaths to 20,760. With 4,095 new, confirmed positive tests, there are now 580,688 total cases in the state. Hospitalizations are now at the lowest point in more than a month with 3,395 patients.
