Maroubra Beach is part of the Eastern Suburbs beaches in Sydney.
Maroubra Beach, Maroubra the locals say that there are 2 parts of the beach, South End and North End and a little bit in the middle, there are 2 surf clubs South Maroubra Surf Club and Maroubra Surf Club. Maroubra is the longest beach of the eastern suburb beaches. So let’s start down South end (Arthur Byrnes Park).
The word ‘Maroubra’ comes from an Aboriginal word meaning ‘like thunder’ because of the sound of the waves pounding on the shoreline.
Maroubra Beach is the longest beach in the eastern suburbs at 1 km in length. It’s in Maroubra Bay, an east-facing 1.8 km wide bay bounded by the northern Mistral and southern Magic points.
The beach occupies the centre of the open bay gets the full force of the Tasman Sea, producing an exposed rip-dominated beach, except for the very southern end of the beach. The beach can be very dangerous, and swimmers are strongly advised to only swim between the flags, swim during patrol hours and not to swim alone.
Weaker swimmers should consider visiting more sheltered beaches located nearby.
Maroubra Beach is fav spot with surfers given the regular good swell and wave conditions.
These waves have made Maroubra one of the most popular surfing locations in Sydney and Australia’s second only National Surfing Reserve.
Maroubra is the surfing beach for the eastern suburbs, with consistent reef and beach breaks. The Point, Dunnybowl and Stromies are reef breaks located toward the northern end, with Skatepark in the centre and Southies and The Reef to the south, the latter providing good, hollow rights in northeast to east swell.
The beach is serviced by 2 Surf Life Saving Clubs and is patrolled all year by Randwick City lifeguards. Volunteer lifesavers patrol the beach on weekends and school holidays during daylight saving months.
Maroubra Beach is popular with visitors given its easy access and large kilometre-long expanse of sand.
If you love open space, then you’re in the right place because parks surround Maroubra Beach. To the north of the beach, you’ll find Jack Vanny Memorial Park, Mahon Pool and the rocky headland. Arthur Byrne Reserve and headland are to the south, and Broadarrow Reserve is to the west.
There are stacks to do at the beach with a free outdoor gym, a skate park and large kids fenced playground.
Free BBQs are located in the central part of the beach and towards the south of the beach near South Maroubra Surf Club. There are outdoor showers, a large changeroom and toilets and lighting. Unfortunately, the ladies are upstairs
There is also a cafe/kiosk area at the centre of the beach, and more restaurants and cafes are located on Marine Parade directly opposite the beach.
A lot of parking quite easy to get a 21-seater bus in and out of there, Toilets are in the clubhouse.
Parking is close to the toilets, and there’s plenty of park seating.
There is free parking surrounding the beach, including a car park adjacent to the main beach, a car park north of the beach at Jack Vanny Reserve and a car park at South Maroubra Beach.
The beach is patrolled year round by Randwick City Council Lifeguards and is serviced by two surf life saving clubs during daylight saving months.
