In the Elbe Valley near Dresden lies the easternmost wine-growing region in Germany. The center of the wine region is the provincial capital Dresden, which is referred to as a stronghold of the arts with its architectural masterpieces. Sachsen has another cultural asset to offer: the wine.
The Elbe River acts as heat storage that helps the wines thrive particularly well in the mild climate. In addition to Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, and Dornfelder, Sachsen is known for its rarity, Goldriesling, a light and delicate white wine.
