C-47 Skytrain Departure
2022 Leesburg Airshow
Leesburg Executive Airport
Leesburg, Virginia
Saturday September 24, 2022
Air Hertiage Inc.'s C-47 Skytrain "Luck of the Irish" was the first static display arrival for the 2022 Leesburg Airshow and was also one of the last to depart the airport following the conclusion of the 2022 airshow.
The 2022 Leesburg Airshow was the last airshow announced by legendary airshow announcer Howdy McCann. Howdy passed away suddenly on March 9, 2023 at his home in Fallston, MD. Howdy was the lead announcer for David Schultz Airshows, a position he has had for nearly thirty years and a position he held at the time of his death. He was an absolute professional in front of the microphone and when off the air, he was one of the nicest, most genuine, and most welcoming gentlemen I had ever met. There was no one who could crack a joke faster than Howdy and no one more knowledgeable, talented, and entertaining than Howdy.
I have known Howdy for over 20 years and have heard him announce beyond that. It is an absolute honor to have called Howdy not only a great friend but also a colleague. Let's be perfectly clear: You cannot replace Howdy McCann. Airshows will not be the same without him at the microphone. He will be missed by millions who have heard him over the years.
The videos from the 2022 Leesburg Airshow and the videos from the 2023 events Howdy would've announced are dedicated in his memory. Please keep his family and friends in your thoughts and prayers.
Please note that any music in the video was played through a public address system and ZINGER AVIATION MEDIA does not have any control over what music is being played during an air show. The International Council of Air Shows (ICAS) has negotiated a 2022 rate of $217 per public air show day from BMI; a rate of $264 per day from ASCAP; and $136 for a one to two-day air show weekend, $197 for three to four days, and $259 for five to seven days from SESAC. These rates are not controlled or negotiated by the USAF or any other entity and are subject to change. This rate applies only to music broadcast over the public address system during the air show portion of the program and does not provide the show with the right to use prerecorded music at concerts or other non-air show special events held in conjunction with the air show.
