The Jagannath Rath Yatra was kicked off with devotees pulling the chariot on the streets of Puri. Thousands of people were seen thronging the streets of the temple town as the massive chariot passed. Millions are believed to have gathered in Puri for the nine-day festivities. The Biju Janata Dal government in Odisha has deployed around ten thousand security personnel to ensure law and order is maintained during the celebrations.
